Is it possible to learn a new language under too much pressure?

I’m currently taking french lessons, going from second to third level (out of 9). I got hired to do my job in English, with some ocassional use of French. Now it turns out they want me to give customer service in English and French equally , and even though I’m going through a special training, I feel very insecure about it. Is it possible to really develop the language in such a short period of time and under a lot of pressure?
Forced learning is not good. In order to learn quicker and more effectively, you would need to have a desire to learn. Do you have any friends that you can practice with outside of work? or maybe watch a few french movies or listen to music once in a while? then you are connecting the learning experience to a positive situation and not to a forced one. Good luck!

I think you might actually learn it faster this way, because you know you will be using it. Don’t worry about being precise – just learn from your mistakes and go on. Good luck!

Yes, but study smart. Don’t try to translate every single thing you hear from English to French. Think about what your customers will need to hear most from you first and learn to respond to that in French. e.g. If they need long answers to a question, learn the long answer in French. And go over what you have already learned several times. Put most commonly used words or phrases on a cheatsheet. Language isn’t like riding a bicycle. You do forget some words or phrases from time to time and you have to recall them. One thing that works – talk to yourself aloud in the mirror in French. You’ll see what another person sees, plus you can hear and correct your pronunciation and vocabulary. Good luck!

If you can’t tell from the answers so far, IMHO the real answer is it’s different for different people.
I personally freeze up and can’t learn anything under extreme pressure. I learn best when when completely relaxed.
If you can learn under pressure, and you want to learn French, you can probably learn it quickly.
