Speaking a extra language does not have to be a problem. However there is no easy route to take it just requires dedication and practice before you can start to speak confidently. When starting out the obvious choice is a french for beginners course and these come in various forms such as via a classroom, a book/Cd or a online course.

Although studying in a classroom does have its advantages recent research has revealed it may not be the most effective way to learn a language . A French language course that generally gets better results is one with lots of real life writing and reading assignment and interactive games to make it more fun. Also needed to be included are  those with plenty of speaking and recorded conversations can really give you a better understanding and feel for the language. All these feature are found in the online and pc based french language courses that have emerged.

With many people feeling self concious as they start to learn french for beginners a online or computer course is often the best bet for them so they can study without feeling pressured on or on show in a group classroom environment. Similarly for people who are restricted with time either through work or family committments then I would recommend looking at a online or computer based french language course. I prefer these to the more traditional books and Cd’s as they offer so much more variety and interaction.

In addition to doing a french language course I would advice (If you can find one) to seek out a forum or a live chat room that is French based. Speaking to others, particularly when writing is a wonderful way to help you with your french language course. Being able to request assistance from those who speak the language fluently is priceless and more often than not they are thrilled to help you out and correct your mistakes. This will make you a more fluent and confident speaker quickly.

Also with the introduction of satellite TV and digital radio you can now find French speaking programs available to you. Make it a point, even in the beginning, to watch or listen to one or two programs a week. This makes you more familiar with the accent as well as the language. Its not just talking the language but being able to understand what people are saying as they reply back to you that gives you the biggest confidence.

Learning a new language is much more fun when you have someone to practice with. So whether you choose a classroom or a french language course that you do at home, make it a point to see if you can find a friend to learn french with you. The two of you will be able to interact in your improving french and gain competency in the new language much more rapidly.

There is so much more choice in the french language course market today. We are not restricted to going back to night school or working our way through some boring textbook. The internet and computer has given us a whole new way to learning languages with new and exciting courses available, lots of resources and information to use and the ability to converse with native speakers.
